Until the advent of Smart Start, the City of Parkland did not have a free, volunteer run, tutoring program.
Smart Start was created to provide tutoring services for students in Elementary through High School who would not or could not, typically pay for tutoring. Due to high demand, we are pleased to announce that we have opened our tutoring services to Elementary School students. Please see our FAQ page for more information. Smart Start has been designed to be a supplemental program that will assist students to better grasp the subjects that they otherwise would find difficult to master.
Although the City of Parkland is not actively partnering in this program, they are providing space for the tutoring and helping to promote the concept by giving community service hours for the volunteer tutors as well as helping to promote the program. Smart Start was founded in 2013 by Jillian Kass and Jacob Oster, who made a presentation to the Mayor of Parkland and the City Commission on August 14, 2013.
Smart Start will provide tutoring services in Math, the Sciences and English initially. We have to expanded our offerings to all subject matter and continue add new tutors to the program. To see what services we offer, please look at our SUBJECTS page.
